Snowshoeing through the old-growth Jeffrey pine and Red Fir near earthquake fault trailhead offers a peaceful and up-close experience in the forest. Take the opportunity to view the unique and relatively recent geological feature: a deep fissure in a flow of volcanic rock, in places as narrow as 10 feet wide and as deep as 60 feet, that lines up with the Inyo-Mono Craters. From the parking area off Hwy 203, look for the Blue Diamond Symbols in the trees to guide you along a 1.6 mile route (3.2 miles total out and back).
