Dog Sledding

Print
  • A French Canadian ex-bootlegger by the name of Tex Cushion ran teams of dogs into Mammoth in the late 1920s, providing the only passenger and freight service for those few hardy souls who stuck around once the snow set in. To experience this traditional mode of travel, bring your own dogs, tack and other necessary equipment, or take a ride with Mammoth Dog Teams. Depending on conditions, local mushers and skijoring enthusiasts recommend the network of snowmobile-packed and pedestrian-free trails northwest of the Scenic Loop toward Mammoth Mountain and the San Joaquin Ridge.
