• A popular trail for families and fishermen, this classic two-mile loop hugs the shore all the way around iconic Convict Lake, meandering through open sagebrush country and groves of pine and aspen, with the sheer granite scarps of Mt. Morrison and Laurel Mountain rising above. The trail can be walked in either direction, from the marina or the parking area at pavement's end (between which points there is an ADA accessible paved path). There is a short hill to be climbed on the northeast shore and a boardwalk bridge over Convict Creek in the aspens at the far end of the lake.

“We went for a hike on March 30, 2018 and there was about six inches of melting snow on the ascent from the trailhead to the lake, but it was totally doable with 6-year old twins. Breathtaking views and east access from 395.”

“Just hiked around the lake on June 8, 2017 and up the Convict Creek Trail. We got within a mile and a half of Mildred, but stopped because of the amount of snow to cross, and the stream crossing on the snow would not be safe. Even so, we got pretty far before we had to stop and the trail is so gorgeous.”

“I love this trail. We pack a small lunch and sit on the boardwalk in the baxk amongst the aspens. We bring our dachsund. Please, if you bring your dog, pick up after em and CARRY IT OUT, PLEASE! Dog poop and dog poop bags are starting to litter the trail and it won't be long before they say "Dogs Prohibited"”
