  • Whether you're a die-hard catch-and-release fly-fisherman or prefer to lounge in a dinghy trolling lures, Mammoth Lakes is one of the best places in the world to fish for trout. From fresh-stocked lakes and meandering rivers teeming with Alpers' famous "monster" rainbows to singing alpine streams dotted with brookies, frog-eating browns and native goldens, rewards await for anglers of all stripes, ages and abilities. Boats can be rented at various concessions in the Lakes Basin and at Convict Lake. For licenses (required for all adults), equipment, guide services and local beta try one of the many shops in town.
