Straddling the John Muir and Ansel Adams Wildernesses, this short cutoff trail connects the John Muir/Pacific Crest Trail, from a junction at Upper Crater Meadows, to the Crater Meadow-McLeod Lake Trail, affording a number of loop possibilities in the area between Reds Meadow and Mammoth Pass.

This trail is accessed from the Horseshoe Lake Trailhead. Take the Mammoth Pass Trail over Mammoth Pass. Turn left onto the Upper Crater Meadows Trail.
