Deep inside the Ansel Adams Wilderness, this trail comprises a section of the River Trail from Agnew Meadows then crosses the river and climbs steeply up along the course of Shadow Creek to its headwaters at Shadow Lake. From there the trail continues all the way to Cecile Lake at the base of the Minarets.

This trail can be accessed for a fee via the Reds Meadow Shuttle Service at Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge & Ski Area Shuttle Stop #1 during the months of May, June, July, August, and the beginning of September. After Shuttle Service stops for the season, you may drive down to Reds Meadow for a fee and access the trailhead via the Agnew Meadows Trailheads.
