Popular for day horseback rides, this broad, easy trail begins across Lake Mary Road from the stables and cuts up through the woods, staying above the road all the way along the east side of Lake Mary to where it finally crosses Mammoth Creek, beyond the Coldwater trailhead, to join the Duck Pass trail. Highlights include the ruins and old cabins of the Mammoth Consolidated Gold Mine, as well as glimpses through the lodgepole pines of Lake Mary and Crystal Crag. Many archaeological and historic sites exist throughout the Inyo National Forest and on adjacent federal and state lands. These sites are special places that contain irreplaceable information of our past and are protected by law. Please take only photographs, leave only footprints, and report vandalism. This trail is groomed in winter by the fee-based Tamarack Cross-Country Ski Center for intermediate to advanced cross-country skiers.
