From a junction on the lower Dragon's Back Trail, on a bench above Twin Lakes at about 9,700 feet, this hiking trail descends steeply at first along a section of the Seven Lakes Point Loop then continues westward along the south-facing slopes of Mammoth Mountain toward Mammoth Pass. Following the contour through open lodgepole forest, skirting above the tree-kill area and Horseshoe Lake, the trail offers good views of the Mammoth Crest before it connects with Mammoth Pass at its crest just above McLeod Lake.
