Black Bear Run is a newly constructed rolling contour trail that climbs from Upper Twin Lake to the top of Twin Falls with several switchbacks along the way. While the trail itself climbs gently, the forested hillside is steep with plenty of shade. Black Bear Run provides access to view and enjoy the cascading waterfalls.
This multi-use, non-motorized trail allows hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. The trail should be used by advanced mountain bikers only due to steep side slopes and necessary speed control at all times. Mountain bikers are required to yield to all other trail users, including other mountain bikers traveling uphill.
The Mammoth Lakes community provided recommendations for trail development in the Mammoth Lakes Basin as part of the “Lakes Basin Special Study” in 2011. This trail alignment was completed in the summer of 2024 and provides connectivity between Upper Twin Lake and the Lakes Basin Path.
