Mammoth Crest Trail 7.2 mi

Trail adopted by: Mammoth Hospital • Trail maintained by: Derek Barker

  • The Mammoth Crest Trail introduces you to the spectacular scenery and geography of the Lakes Basin, the High Sierra and beyond. Starting at the north end of the Lake George parking area, the trail climbs quickly in a series of switchbacks past the junction to Crystal Lake, topping out at timberline and the long, open ridgeline along the Mammoth Crest escarpment--the approximate boundary of the John Muir Wilderness. Big views unfurl in all directions. From here, there's access to the John Muir Wilderness and the adjacent Ansel Adams Wilderness, including trails that lead to places such as Deer Lakes and Duck Pass.
