From its trailhead just before the crest of the old Laurel Lakes 4x4 road, at 9,910 feet, the 4.2-mile Edith Lake trail immediately enters the John Muir Wilderness. From the wilderness boundary it climbs nearly 1,000 feet of elevation and then descends into Edith Lake.

This trail is accessed from the Laurel Lakes to Edith Trailhead. From the Junction of Laurel Lakes Road and Sherwin Creek Road ascend several miles of rough 4x4 road to the trailhead. A high clearance vehicle equipped with Four-Wheel Drive is necessary for the drive up Laurel Lakes Road.
