This 1.6-mile spur trail begins at its junction with the John Muir Trail near Trinity Lake, inside the Ansel Adams Wilderness. The trail climbs past Castle Lake to reach Emily Lake at 9900 feet.

This trail can be accessed by the Reds Meadow Shuttle Service at Mammoth Mountain Ski Area Main Lodge Shuttle Stop #6 during the months of May, June, July, August, and the beginning of September. After Shuttle Service stops for the season you may drive down to Reds Meadow and access the trailhead via the Devils Postpile Trailhead.
