Motorized Trail Riding Crater Flat Loop

Do you have Off Highway Vehicles Experiences you'd like to share? Find out How!

  • This is a highly scenic ride on easy, graded-gravel roads, perfect for first-time riders and families. Start from the Mammoth Scenic Loop. Follow the Inyo Craters Road to the parking area and restrooms at the base of the 700-year old volcanic craters, where a short footpath leads to the rim. Following the green OHV signs, loop around the craters clockwise, journeying through the Eastern Sierra's contribution to the Ring of Fire. Enjoy the great open expanses and unique views of Mammoth Mountain, San Joaquin Ridge and Deer Mountain. Loop back southward along the east side of the craters to where you started. Motor Vehicle Use Maps and other information are available at the Welcome Center or at the Inyo National Forest website. Keep OHV experiences alive on public lands - stay on designated roads and trails at all times.
