The Shady Rest Path is good for beginner handcyclers, but it's not for first-timers. Starting at Shady Rest Park, there are some brief inclines that require significant effort for novice cyclists and there are pullouts along the way. The path is mostly shaded and though it can be busy during peak times, it's generally peaceful and pleasant. Stop at the Welcome Center for water and restrooms before heading back downhill. Or for a slightly more challenging workout, cycle under the tunnel, past the Mammoth Mountain RV Park, and up to the vista point just before the path heads down to the Industrial Park.
