This is a good introductory loop for dual sport first-timers. From Old Mammoth Road ride east on Sherwin Creek Road (USFS 4S08) past the Hayden Cabin/Mammoth Museum and Sierra Meadows Ranch to where the pavement ends. From here the road is good gravel, well-graded but much used and sometimes washboarded. You'll ride through shady pine forest and see great views of Laurel Mountain across sagebrush steppes. There are old stands of aspen trees by the creek, where the fall colors are spectacular. At the lower end of Sherwin Creek Road turn onto Hwy 395 then exit onto Hwy 203 for the ride back into town. Keep OHV experiences alive on public lands - stay on designated roads and trails at all times.
