Road Biking to Horseshoe Lake and Swimming Horseshoe Lake

Do you have Swimming Experiences you'd like to share? Find out How!

  • The climb from the Welcome Center to Horseshoe Lake is steady, but once you get on the Lakes Basin Path, after Minaret Road, the pavement is smooth, the views are beautiful, and it’s nice to be separated from cars. Be aware of the multi-use nature of the Lakes Basin Path. Watch for hikers. At Horseshoe Lake, at the end of the road, you can either swim across or around the edge of the lake. The atmosphere is friendly, and you’ll often be swimming with dogs. On a warm day you can dry in the sun before riding back to town. Descend on the road rather than the path, as you're likely to reach considerable speeds!
