Snowmobiling the A Trail and L Trail from Sawmill Cutoff Road to Lookout Mountain

Do you have Snowmobiling Experiences you'd like to share? Find out How!

  • The ride from Shady Rest to Lookout Mountain is a long and fun ride with the opportunity for an ungroomed adventure to the summit of Lookout Mountain. From the Shady Rest OSV staging area, follow the A trail north crossing under Hwy 395 to the L trail. Follow the L trail for a loop experience around Lookout Mountain. Near the southern junction of the A and L trail, a marked but ungroomed trail climbs US Forest Service Road 2S02 to the summit for grand, 360-degree views across the volcanic landscape of the Long Valley Caldera to the Sierra Nevada and the Glass Mountains. Winter recreation maps are available at the Welcome Center and on the Inyo National Forest web site. Snowmobile riders are required to understand closure boundaries and stay out of closed areas.
