Right at the heart of the scenic Mammoth Lakes Basin, Twin Falls Overlook presents multiple opportunities for both large-scale and intimate photographic exploration of this unique landscape. Interpretive signs at the parking area give a good sense of the geological context. Early in the morning, cross the road and shoot across Lake Mamie toward first light on Crystal Crag and the Mammoth Crest. Late in the day, look for a classic shot down across Twin Lakes to the Long Valley Caldera beyond. A short, careful hike down along the outflow from Lake Mamie gives access to close-up shots of raging waterfalls.
