Twin Lakes is a great place for families and first time paddlers to begin an exploration of the spectacular Mammoth Lakes Basin. Get picnic supplies and sundries from Tamarack Lodge or the Twin Lakes General Store. Launch from the public boat ramp at the Twin Lakes Picnic Area. Enjoy close-up views of the waterfalls spilling out of Lake Maime, above. Paddle the shallows and watch for ducks and other migratory shorebirds in the Alpine lake grasses. Bring binoculars! Bring a fishing rod! Paddle beneath the bridge and through the narrows into the lower lake for views up to the lava tube and the backside of Mammoth Mountain.
