The Whitmore Recreation Area lies in the heart of the Long Valley Caldera with 360-degree views of the great wide open. The recreation area is located 6 miles south of Mammoth Lakes, just off U.S. HWY 395 on the Benton Crossing Road and includes the Whitmore Track & Sports Field, Whitmore Pool and 3 ball fields. The Town has developed 10 acres of the total leased area (32.64) for public and programmed use. The recreation area is open year round from sunrise to sunset. Amenities are limited in winter. The Whitmore Track and Sports Field is an all-weather, 9-lane polyurethane running track, with a full-size synthetic turf infield striped for both soccer and football that includes goals, terrace seating, restrooms and ample parking. 3 Ball fields include a regulation baseball diamond and two softball fields (one lighted). The Whitmore Pool is located adjacent to the ball fields on Benton Crossing Road. The facility includes a six-lane 25-meter pool, children's wading pool, restrooms, hot showers, lawn area, shade structure and vending machines. The pool is open from mid-May through early September.
